Arrogance; Meet The Zen Master, Phil Jackson

Opening minutes, 3rd quarter, Western Semi’s, Mavericks at Lakers;

Lakers build a 16 point lead using some very hard pressure defense, start quarter on 7-0 run. Things look good for Phil Jackson’s Lakers;

Then the wheels come off, quite literally! The Lakers used so much energy to build the 16 point lead, that they hit the wall, they got tired fast.. Dallas peels off 4 straight points;

“Call time Phil” I yelled at my Television set, as if somehow the so -called Zen Master would feel the “vibration” emminating from my voice. “Can’t you see Dallas is about to go on a run, your guys are tired, and you have to try to protect your now 12 point lead”?

Obviously my plea with a Television set went unanwered. Jackson did not call a timeout until Dallas went on a 17-2 run, cutting The Laker lead to 1 point before he finally decides, “my guys cannot figure it out on their own”

The above quote is what Phil quite often says when asked why he does not call timeouts like other coaches do. Well Phil, sometimes players do have it figured out, but need a break, which is part of the reason The NBA gives a certain amount of timeouts to teams during a game. Often times, the other team, in this case The Dallas Mavericks, dig themselves a hole of 16 points or more because they  do not give the proper effort, do not “turn it on”. When Dallas got behind 16, you can bet they were thinking of the last time They Played in L.A; a 30 point beat down humiliation, and the game that cost them the 2nd seed in the West. “We will not allow that again, we will play our asses off now”

The wakeup call for Dallas. They picked up their energy and fought hard, to their credit, while The Lakers looked gassed from their hard effort to build that 16 point lead.

Attention Phil Jackson;

YOU CALL TIMEOUTS TO BREAK THE MOMENTUM OF YOUR OPPONENT, AND TO GIVE YOUR GUYS A BREAK, AND GET SUBS IN SO THE WEARY LEGS CAN REST, SO YOU CAN PROTECT THE LEAD YOUR TEAM WORKED HARD TO GET, SO HARD, THAT THEY NEEDED A BREAK!

I do not think Phil will get my vibe on this one either! Stubborn and arrogance does what stubborn and arrogance does! The Lakers have been so good for so long, that they have been able to overcome Phil’s poor in game management. You can bet Phil is thinking now;

“My guys will pick it up they will get it from this game, we are better than Dallas and they cannot outplay us”

If he is thinking that, and I am rather sure he is, that is total arrogance. Does he realize his team is older now, and that Kobe is playing mucho beaten up with injuries?

Does he understand Derrick Fisher is older than  “Vladimir Ilyich Lenin’s” fermunder cheese?

That Ron Artest is so confused out there sometimes, that he thinks the basket is actually his own inner-demon nightmar’ish horror clown?

Or is Phil just being Phil; Arrogant, stubborn, and placing all the blame on his team, never admitting publically that “I think I could have done a better job coaching this game”?

Bottom line Phil; It is inexcusable to not call a timeout until your 16 point lead becomes 1!! It is not about whether they can figure things out Phil; Rather, it is about your team being older, more banged up, and needing a much deserved and strategic break to rest their tied legs! Note Phil. when you did call a timeout, you went up back 8 points.. If you call the timeout when you should have, that would have been a 19 point lead going into the 4th quarter, = GAME OVER..

Please Phil, stop your arrogance and stubborness, admit when you make mistakes, so My Lakers can actually win The Title this year, complete the 3-peat, and you can ride off into the sunset with Jeanie, perhaps taking a retro tour, where you can drop acid and see a giant Willis Reed coming out of a Zen Master’s arse!
